I built up the single speed using a Rock Shox Pilot XC for a front fork. (I have a full rigid Homegrown, so I wanted something a little different.) Bolted onto the fork is a Bontrager stem and Easton EA50 bars. The front wheel is a Giant hub with a Mavic rim. The rear is a Surly Flip Flop hub with a Sun rim. LX Cranks and a WTB seat round out the deal. Gearing at 32x20 makes it a good climber.

This is my SS on a budget. (Everything is on a budget with a 3 year old and another on the way)

Specs: Frame:  Nothing will do but IRO Cranks: Shimano 175 with 36 tooth ring and Ebay Shimano Pedals Wheels: Ebay generic converted to SS with spacers Fork: Ebay Surly  Brakes: Ebay Radius Forged Aircraft Aluminum Chain: Pimpin’ Gold BMX Chain from Walmart. Headset: Ebay FSA DH Pig Tires: Ebay WTB Moto-Raptor 2.4 front and Hutchinson Mosquito 1.95 rear  Saddle: Ebay Specialized MTB Body Geometry Comp  Bars: Ebay again Nashbar full double touring bars. (Closed bar ends are a must for riding tight South Texas single track. The trees here will reach out and grab you with open ends.) Chain Tug: Surly Tugster (Yes it was ten bucks more than any other one out there but it has a built in beer opener.  How could I resist that?)

I decided to build my Highlander frame fully rigid with the stock IRO fork.  This bike weighs in at about 23 pounds and it is bomb proof.  It is built with Surly hubs laced to Sun Rhyno Lite rims running WTB Mutano Raptor 2.4 inch tires.  The drivetrain consists of Raceface Prodigy ISIS cranks, Raceface bashring, Salsa 34 tooth chainring, and a 16 tooth freewheel.  Also includes: Thompson Elite seatpost, Serfas DD Pro saddle, Avid Arch-Rival brakes, Sram 9.0 levers, FSA Orbit XL II headset, Titec Hellbent bars, Titec Ti stem, and Salsa seatpost clamp.
Thanks for the great frame!

I fitted it for Avid mechanical front and rear disks. I made a caliper adapter which adjusts with the rear wheel so caliper position is not thrown out of whack with rear wheel adjustments. It has worked out great. Topo Tierra disk wheels (rear adapted to SS with spacers), Chris King 16t cog, Stylo 32t crankset, XT levers, riser bars, lock-on grips (love 'em), steel disk specific fork, etc. It has smooth tires for fire road blasting now but will go back to knobbies for summer single tracking. I haven't been riding my other bikes much anymore....
